I was waiting for the names to be revealed for the be_compromised secret santa fic exchange before posting this end-of-year-fic-meme.

01. Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?:
I wrote a few more fics this year compared to last year (10 fics versus the 8 I wrote last year) and I had PROMISED in the 2012 version of this meme to at least write one thing a month because then I'd at least have 12 fics at the end of the year...obviously that did not happen. sadface.
(.....although if you include drabbles I get it up to 14!! yay me!)

Breakdown by fandom:
+ The Avengers (6)
+ Haven (2)
+ The LBD (1)
+ Parks and Recreation (1)
+ Legend of the Seeker (1)
+ Women of the Otherworld (1)
+ Game of Thrones (1)
+ Lost Girl (1)

02. What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted last year?:
CLINT AND NATASHA because the whole fandom snuck up on me and ended up consuming my life. My very first fic for them, (in the cheap seats, Avengers, Clint/Natasha) is kinda gen and was the equivalent of me testing out the waters before diving into the deep end. But boy did I ever dive deep. I wrote four more fics for them last year and I couldn't probably blather on for a week about why I love them as a couple, but I also never saw myself enjoying a COMIC BOOK fandom - I mean, they have as bad a history as soap operas with killing people off and breaking couples up and I'm an OTP-for-life kinda gal. DON'T MESS WITH MY SHIPS!

03. What's your own favourite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?:
I think that would be my Yuletide story (this never would have happened if it weren't for those damn cucumber sandwiches Parks and Recreation, Leslie, gen) because I've wanted to write Park and Rec again (I seem to only be able to if it's for Yuletide) and my recipient wanted ALL THE LADIES, ALL THE TIME and I was excited to oblige! I'm still worried there is too much focus on Leslie/Ben, but her cold feet aren't really about her relationship, but more about CHANGE. And this is someone who once kept seven birdhouses in her living room. I'm actually proud of some of the character voices and someone commented that it felt like the show, which is the highest compliment!! (Also, I got to write in Ann's POV, something I've wanted to do since I outlined a rough 'Ann's parents visit Pawnee' fic I never wrote)

I also really liked a drabble I wrote for [personal profile] pirateygoodness (we shall not sleep, Lost Girl, Nadia/Lauren) because I needed to make sense of the show's (lack of) treatment of Nadia. We didn't get nearly enough time with her and never got to see her story develop. I think I could have really liked her? It's really short but it contains the hints of Nadia slowly being possessed that I wish the show had given us. It's sorta become my headcanon now. So, not amazing writing but cathartic?

04. Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?:
OH MAN, not all risks are good things. For example: screen-writing format is hard and weird and doesn't flow and not popular. Basically: NEVER AGAIN. I thought that a script-like format would work for The LBD and so I wrote my take on the ~PROPOSAL/CONFRONTATION~ scene before it aired (quick before lizzie takes this down Lizzie Bennet Diaries, Lizzie/Darcy) and while some things are similar, most things are wrong and I'm SO GLAD the show's writers are better than me!!

One day I thought it was a good idea to write a modern AU for Game of Thrones and no-one stopped me! It deals with Sansa (of course) but in my head I had plots for Ned and Arya and basically it just got too big of an idea and I never really put anything on paper. It's certainly a UNIQUE take on GoT and I think the reason for Sansa being trapped with Joffrey translates well, but it'll always be something I never had the motivation to finish (rat bastard, motorcycle clubs AU!Game of Thrones, Sansa).

05. Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?:
I have EIGHT unfinished fics in progress on my googledocs. I'd like to finish at least three of them. ALSO I REALLY WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN HALFAMOON THIS YEAR. I totally forgot last year but this time I've got about a month left to polish my obscure SCC fic! (It's about a character we only saw once! IT WILL SURELY BE A HIT! /sarcasm)

06. From my past year of writing, what was my...

Story Most Under-appreciated by the Universe:
An urban fantasy series ended this year and the last three books were from the point of view of a young witch and I've always loved Savannah in other people's stories so to have THREE books exploring her insecurities and her relationship with her powers was really cool. I've also always loved her relationship with Adam, who is a bit older. In the books, they end up together, but in my fic (<href="http://archiveofourown.org/works/514053">burn your world to dust Women of the Otherworld, Adam & Savannah), Adam is oblivious and thinks he's too old for her and is angsting about caring more about her than a strictly platonic 'guardian' manner. I see why it's not more popular, it's not a popular ship in the books, the book fandom is small and there is no kissing. (GASP!)

Most Popular:
My second ever Avengers fic (never go to bed angry Avengers, Clint/Natasha) has the most A03 hits and kudos which is probably because it has Clint going down on Natasha in the jet right before a mission. People love their smut and I love to write dude-on-girl oral. I think I actually got their banter down (a big worry for me) and Natasha got to be in charge and it's just silly fun about two people navigating boundaries in a relationship. I also laugh at the idea that not only did Nat make Clint sleep on the couch, but every single Avenger tried to give him romantic advice and THAT was more torturous for him.

Most Disappointing:
I'm actually....kinda happy with everything? Like, nothing was left feeling unfinished because of time restraints and I wrote what I wanted to express. That said, I feel like I let my Secret Santa recipient down (no happy endings with me Avengers, Clint & Natasha) because although they asked for 'whump' - which is apparently the new term for hurt/comfort - it's kinda a downer fic. It's one I NEEDED to write because I sometimes get annoyed when authors don't show ANY fallout from Loki possessing Clint's mind and so I wanted to explore the aftermath in depth. But to get it as a Christmas gift? Kinda a downer. Maybe I should have written a kink fic instead?

Most Sexy:
Well, I'd been meaning to write 'Nathan goes down on Audrey' since S1 of Haven and FINALLY got around to it. (the advantages of cuddling Haven, Nathan/Audrey) Any time I can earn a Cunnilingus Avengers badge, I will TAKE IT. I will also accept my LOTS fic (at least we have this Legend Of The Seeker, Richard/Kahlan) as most sexy, which has been described as 'skype sex, but Seeker style'. Hey! Kahlan's got NEEDS, son. And when her hubby's away, she's gonna play.

THE REST:
+ so take off all your clothes Haven, Nathan/Audrey
+ one step forward, two steps back Avengers, Natasha & Clint
+ stranded, Avengers, Clint/Natasha
+ contingencies, Avengers, Clint/Natasha

To be fair, at least five were never cross-posted to my writing community. S-sorry?
