Whoops, I just noticed that I skipped #6. I went from 5 to 7. LOL. Guess that explains why I didn't have enough room for Peter/Olivia.

DECEMBER 2012 )

I was waiting for the names to be revealed for the be_compromised secret santa fic exchange before posting this end-of-year-fic-meme.

Good job, 12/12/12! You've revived one of my favourite websites (where I met so many friends!!!) and you had LJ doing everything in it's power to stop you (UGH, wtf are those new profile pages?)

For a second I thought this would be an entry where I would actually TALK! about STUFF! but no,
I am boring and below is my November-in-review list. I have all these THOUGHTS about Skyfall and BOND and HAVEN and HART OF DIXIE and ELEMENTARY. But, alas (earwax) tumblr came back too soon and I'll probably just let my feelings air out in a tag spiral under a gifset.

(BUT YOU WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER FOR ICONS AND FIC READING, LJ! At least I can always change the style so I'm reading fic on a white background. Sometimes with tumblr, I copy the entire thing into a word document because who can read blue words on a bright pink screen?)

NOVEMBER IN REVIEW )

I am done almost all of my Christmas shopping but the Christmas party I'm hosting is drawing near and I'm slowly getting more anxious? I just want everything to be perfect?

1. So Saturday was spent packed at the convention centre with other sci-fi fans and it was so much fun and I'm already looking forward to next year! WARNING: pics have not been retouched or fixed up to look pretty. Also it's a pretty photo-heavy post. FanExpo 2012: Lost Girl & Continuum panels )

2. I have FINALLY caught up with Warehouse 13! I have some metronome questions though because things do not make sense.

3. Gravity Falls is super cute! I really love Mabel Pine and Zeus and the town cops and Grunkle Stan's reaction that one time he watched a historical romance on TV. Everyone should watch it!

One month left in summer but I feel like I've done a bunch! Went to a few Cottages, ate food from a bbq, went on a picnic, went to a baseball and football game, went paintballing, went on rollercoasters, went swimming and got a tan. I'm gonna call my summer accomplished, meaning I don't have any more things on my To Do list and I can just lounge around and relax and perhaps drape myself over things. Only problem: I NEED MORE BOOKS.
noblealice: iris west against a pink background with hearts (tv:wolf:darling child you'll escape one)
I may or may not have marathoned all aired episodes of Teen Wolf. Also, I may or may not have really enjoyed it?

01. Taking a cue from Mindy Kaling, I'm thinking of donating to a charity for my birthday. At first I was thinking of donating to the Red Cross or Planned Parenthood or WWF, but I'm willing to donate to smaller charities - particularly Women/Youth/LGBT Shelters or other worthwhile causes I haven't even heard of. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO PITCH YOUR PERSONAL CAUSE THAT IS CLOSE TO YOUR HEART (note: this isn't going to be a big donation by any stretch but I feel like it's time for me to give back after years of being privileged enough to get presents my whole life).

02. So my friends brought up today the comments on cbc.ca and how their minds are blown by the opinions of idiots and prejudices ect. My thoughts: 1)never read the comments, 2)how are you shocked? These are the people who voted in a Harper-led Conservative government. These are the people who voted Rob Ford in as mayor of Toronto. They exist, they're vocal and we can't ignore them just to keep this outdated image of our country.

Disillusionment in our 'great' nation is the only safety net against rage bombs. Not to say people should be apathetic, but if we are less surprised when we are disappointed, (WHA? CANADA IS NOT PERFECT? IMPOSSIBLE! I will spend all my time yelling about this and whose problem it is instead of talking about the real issue you've brought up!) then we might actually be willing to do something to fix our nation. Something can only be fixed if people acknowledge that it's broken and Canada's certainly not without flaws.

...uh, and on that wonderfully positive note: happy belated 145th birthday, Canada! I hope we fix you up real soon!

03. They are making a Maleficent movie (!!) and I am ecstatic about this due to a childhood love affair where I had a striped staff with a snake head at the grip and role played as the evil queen and wrote out a play in large print in one of those old school notebooks. I even read it out loud to my family and they were kind enough to humour me. I also hear that Disney is working on a twelfth princess movie that is supposed to be based on The Snow Queen, a fairy tale I'm not overly familiar with except for staring at the beautiful illustrations on a copy I once had as a kid. Although it appears that they are making a bunch of changes so it's only very loosely based on the real story. Either way - yay more princesses and villians and ladies in general!

04. coming up next - my monthly roundup of june! (got too long for this entry)
noblealice: iris west against a pink background with hearts (tv:cougar:pound some grape)
I attempted to make Sangria for the first time - with a recipe I pretty much made up as I went because I'm trying to re-create the drink I had at a restaurant in Montreal.

So here is my recipe I cobbled together from like 3 different recipes! )

from [personal profile] hjea, who is bringing back this meme, y'all - when you see a Shakespeare quotation in a journal, post one in yours

My mind hath been as big as one of yours,
My heart as great, my reason haply more,
To bandy word for word and frown for frown;
But now I see our lances are but straws,
Our strength as weak, our weakness past compare

- Taming of the Shrew, Act V Scene II

MONTHLY ROUNDUP - MAY )

Yeah, was not kidding when I said I read a bunch of Nora Roberts so I'd have something to talk to my sister about. Also I think I watched more shows but for the life of me, can't remember what they were. *shrug*

I know it's really late, but better late than never, right? Also, this is not a final list. I'm still reading (slowly) but here are some gems that jumped out at me.

This last fic isn't from Yuletide but it's a FANTASTIC piece of writing that everyone should read. It's the type of fic that makes you THINK and makes me feel honoured to know the author personally.

PART THREE OF THE FEMALE CHARACTER LOVE MEME: BOOKS/COMICS

PART ONE:TV PART TWO:FILMS
(only, looking at those, there are so many people I want to ADD so maybe I will have to make another list, who knows!)

Anyways, here are my Top Ten Literary Characters IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER: )
I decided to limit myself to one character per fandom or I'd go on forever. Still, all but one of these are KIDS (although Anne does grow up in her series), not full-grown women. I guess the books I've read so far haven't given me awesome adult female characters. I'm taking this to mean that I need to READ MORE BOOKS.

Hmmmm...I"m not really doing well, am I, since my second DW post is ALSO a meme. *facepalm*

2009 FIC MEME

(this is where I would link you to this meme of years past....except I can't find it in any entry. Maybe I've never done this meme before and it just seems familiar because I've seen it on my flist?)

'Things are different this time. Before she was demanding and possessive. But now she wants me to do stuff and stay with her all the time!' )

And my first dreamwidth post is a meme! So much for waiting for a proper subject for my first crosspost attempt. I hope I've made up for it with the Futurama quotes.
